Colors of The Fall
Every year I appreciate being born in fall more and more. I absolutely love the idea of spending my birthday month surrounded by the ever changing colors of nature. Now having lived in NYC for almost five years I think I have accumulated a good list of places where to catch the fall foliage.
Woodstock - I walked through a literal tunnel of yellow on my trip up here, the leaves were almost glowing!
Sleepy Hollow - I took a trip up there this fall and it was honestly much prettier that I was anticipating. Despite the haunting tale of the Headless Horseman (that the town won’t let you forget) it’s really quite quaint
Poughkeepsie - A little further up north with a beautiful river running through and and a lengthy bridge crossing over it
Peekskill - This is a lot more accessible to NYC but still has beautiful views of the Hudson River and not a single car horn
Hyde Park - I deabted about this one only because I had some literal haunting experiences up here. Now that I think about it upstate NY is a little creepy.
Storm King Art Center - This place is a must! Towering art sculptures just scattered across 500 acres of orange leaves
My neighborhood - I’m kidding, but not really. Seriously, I should do some fall foliage tours down my blocks
Last year I was casted away to the middle of nowhere in Virginia to learn how to dissect the brains of little fruit flies, honestly speaking I didn't even know they had brains! But the one upside of being isolated during my favorite time of the year was the fact that I was surrounded by changing trees. So I guess number eight on the list would be Janiela Research Campus but given that you can only enter the grounds if you are a working scientist there I won’t include it on the official list.
There’s just something so cozy and comforting about the fall out here, being from California I know how to appreciate nature but I have to admit that fall is something else on the east coast :)
